Troy University recognized as Doctoral University in 2025 Carnegie Classifications
Troy University has now achieved Doctoral Classification in the modernized 2025 Carnegie Institutional Classifications.
The Institutional Classification is a descriptive tool that organizes the landscape of American colleges and universities into groupings of similar types of institutions. To reflect changes in higher education over the past 50 years, the American Council on Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching modernized the classification structure for the 2025 Carnegie Classifications.
In 2021, TROY was classified as a Master’s College and University. Now, TROY is designated a Mixed Undergraduate/Graduate-Doctorate University. Just 3 percent of colleges and universities across the nation received this classification.
TROY partners with Shaw AFB to offer on-base classes
Troy University is now offering classes on-site for Airmen at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina, as part of a new educational partnership.
The agreement, signed last fall, paved the way for TROY to begin teaching classes on base in January. The partnership was formally celebrated on Tuesday, June 17, with a signing ceremony at Shaw, featuring officials from both TROY and the base leadership.
At Troy University, we take great pride in our service to America’s military men and women and their families. Because of our long history of military support, TROY understands the unique needs of military students, and we remain committed to helping them succeed in their educational and career pursuits. We look forward to working with the leadership at Shaw to provide convenient access to TROY degree programs right here on base.

Graduation day at Pike County Jail marks a new chapter for Women in Entrepreneurship program
A sense of celebration filled the air at the Pike County Jail as a group of women walked across a classroom space not usually known for applause. But on this day, they were recognized — not as inmates, but as aspiring business owners.
The event marked the culmination of “New Start Up,” a five-session entrepreneurship program led by Troy University’s Small Business Development Center, in partnership with the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and the Sorrell College of Business.
