State Sen. Arthur Orr to provide keynote speech at Troy University’s Spring Commencement
State Sen. Arthur Orr (R-3rd) will deliver the keynote address at Troy University’s Spring Commencement Exercises on May 10.
Two ceremonies will take place in Trojan Arena, the first at 10 a.m. that includes graduates from the College of Arts and Sciences and the Sorrell College of Business; the second at 2 p.m. for the colleges of Communication and Fine Arts, Education and Health and Human Services. More than 1,000 students will receive their degrees across both ceremonies and 15 students are expected to receive their doctoral degrees.
Tickets are required for both ceremonies.
TROY journalism students get field experience in simulated crime scene
Troy University journalism students had a chance to experience reporting at a crime scene in a simulation held Friday morning on the Troy Campus thanks to a partnership between the Hall School of Journalism and Communication and the Troy University Police Department.
Paige Ray, TV Production Coordinator for TrojanVision News, worked with TUPD officials to arrange a crime scene for her television news practicum students to visit and report on.
Troy University receives “Moon Tree” from NASA’s Artemis I mission
After receiving hundreds of applications, Troy University was selected by NASA to receive a “Moon Tree” seedling that flew around the moon on the 2022 Artemis I mission. The loblolly pine tree seedling was delivered on Friday morning.
Over multiple rounds of selections, NASA chose institutions based on an organization’s ability to care for the tree and how they planned to utilize the tree to promote educational opportunities in their communities.
Event raises awareness on organ donation as participants share personal experiences
Former firefighter and fire marshal Jimmy Ward knows that had it not been for the generosity of an organ donor, he wouldn’t be here today and wouldn’t have lived to see two grandchildren born or meet the one that is on the way.
Ward, who received both a heart and kidney transplant, shared his experiences and encouraged others to register to become an organ donor during Troy University’s School of Nursing’s National Donate Month program held last week at the Troy Campus.
Nursing students, faculty and staff teamed with the new organization Student Organ Donation Advocates and Legacy of Hope to help raise awareness about the importance of organ donation.
Troy Public Radio Director wins ABBY Award
Troy Public Radio’s Kyle Gassiott has been named a recipient of the 2024 Alabama Broadcaster’s Association “Alabama’s Best in Broadcasting” Judge’s Award of Merit.
The Alabama Broadcaster’s Association celebrated its 18th annual awards ceremony on Saturday, April 6 in Birmingham, Ala. Over 300 radio and television broadcasters represented stations from across the state as colleagues and competitors collected statues.
